What is environmental management?

A:

Environmental management is the act of promoting sustainable management of the environment and the use of natural resources by establishing principles for decision making on matter affecting the environment.

What is an environmental authorisation?

A:

An environmental authorisation is an approval, license, permit or other authorisation by a competent authority in respect of a listed activity listed in the Listing Notices enclosed in the National Environmental Management Act, 1998, or any other specific environmental management act.

Q:

What is a Water Use Licence?

A:

A Water Use Licence is an authorisation that allows a person to lawfully commence with any of the eleven water uses stipulated under Section 21 in the National Water Act, 1998. Q:

How long does it take before I get my Water Use Licence or Environmental Authorisation?

A:

In terms of the new Regulations, the process from the acknowledgement of the intent to apply for a water use licence, to the decision in terms of granting or rejecting the application, should take 300 working days. However, this 300 working days excludes extensions from the different parties involved in the process.
Due to strict timeframes that needs to be complied with, an Environmental Authorisation takes between 6 to 9 months after submission.

Q:

Is specialist studies required for the compilation of my Water Use License or Environmental Authorisation?

A:

The project will be discussed with the relevant Competent Authority, where after it will be determined if and what specialist studies are required.
